Fundraising Programs

Special Events Midwest is proud to announce the creation of a Fundraising Program for  a wide range of youth organizations. Youth Sports Associations or Teams, Church Youth Groups, High School or Elementary School Clubs and Neighborhood Youth Activity Groups are eligible to participate.

Effective June 1, 2009, we are offering an easy and profitable "Catering Referral 5% Program". Introduce us to customers and we will provide a donation to your organization based on the total amount of catering or event services purchased.

We offer a wide variety of catering and event services including corporate meeting meals, special events, company picnics, weddings, graduations and celebrations of all types.

It's easy. Families just deliver our Menu Book/Program Packet to family, friends, neighbors and business associates. There is no selling. There are no up front costs. Just talk to people and explain how the program works, provide them the program packet and leave the rest to us. Our Event Planners can assist you with everything you need to plan and coordinate a successful program.

We administer the program, we do the sales and then we send a check for 5% of the Sub Total (Order Total less Delivery Charge, Service Charge and Tax) of every order placed, delivered and paid for in full during the duration of the program.

For added value talk to us about your organization's Team Banquets, Awards Dinners or Season Kick-off Events. Registered programs are eligible for the 5% donation as well as additional discounts and bonuses.

For the Chef's and myself, our work days have been extended by weddings, tasting's and more...we love it! In working with different brides, or grooms, or mothers of brides...or mothers of grooms, and even a couple fathers in the mix - I have been helping many people prepare for their big day! In the prep process, we must not forget the important events that lead up to the wedding day. Don't forget a very important event, the bridal shower! First, we must send out the invitations or "Save the Date" notifications. What better way to get the word out than the almighty-powerful internet? Visit websites such as www.purpletrail.com, www.evite.com, or www.mypunchbowl.com for wonderful ideas to send out invitations via the internet.

While we are on the topic of cards - always plan ahead in considering "Thank you" cards for the bride to send to her guests. Make her life much easier by having all the guests put their own name and address on each card envelope when arriving at the shower. The bride will owe you a personal thank you card later for this wonderful idea!

As those guests arrive at your wedding reception, they will need a bit of direction to their seat.  For an outdoor wedding reception (tis the season!) - consider hanging seating cards on a string with close pins. Large close pins are available for table number labeling at each table as well. It makes for a very creative, fun way to direct your guests. The table numbering system is one thing every guest will notice, they HAVE to notice it- make it stand out and leave a wonderful impression!

Special Events Midwest is the outdoor wedding specialist. When planning an outdoor wedding you have the ability to start with a clean slate! Make the event your own by bringing in your choice of the tent style, tables, chairs, linens, china, décor, lighting and most importantly- your choice of catering company (ehem, Special Events Midwest!).

Happy Spring! :)

Culinary Corner

Hello all and welcome back to the "'Culinary Corner!"

summer lovers picnic

Aw summer.  The birds are chirping.  The sun is shining bright (and for more than 5 hours at a time).  Remember your summer crushes when you were a kid?  Maybe that girl you met at camp, or the new girl moving in down the street.  Nothing was sweeter or more innocent.  Back then you could show her how much you cared by plucking a few field flowers, or secretly holding hands as you walked through the park or slowly swayed together on the swing set.

Well, we've grown up since then.  Our days are filled more with the stress of work, bills, and possibly your own kids, rather than whether or not your new crush would circle "Yes" on the "Do you like me?" note you slipped under her door.  But wait, what is that I see up ahead...... could it be?  Yes!  Yes it is.  A weekend!  Call the in-laws, beg the neighbors, do something to get rid of the kids, forget about the daily monotony, and bring that sweetheart of yours back in time.

Be creative.  Write up a little note just like the old days asking, "Would you like to go out with me? Circle one. YES  NO."  Now, grab your blanket and a cooler.  You'll need refreshments and tableware.  Pick a park slightly further away from your daily stomping grounds to give it that vacationy feel.  A 45 minute drive will be worth every moment as you get to watch the summer bloom on the way there and back.
What you need:
(Note: some things should be prepared ahead of time.*)
  1. Enough field greens (aka mixed greens, mesculin mix) for two.
  2. Four slices of prosciutto fried crisp and crumbled*.
  3. One ripe mango and one box of strawberries.
  4. Either a small amount (about 1 cup) of feta or gorgonzola cheese crumbles.
  5. For your dressing you will need*:
         a. 1 cup of chopped fruit.  Either the strawberries or the mango.  Whichever you use here, use the other for on top of the salad and dessert.
         b. 1 cup olive oil
         c. 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
         d. ½ teaspoon salt
         e. ¼ teaspoon pepper
         f. ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
         g. ¼ teaspoon sugar
         h. ¼ teaspoon dried tarragon
Combine all ingredients in food processor or blender and mix until the fruit is pureed.  Store in refrigerator.  Yields about 2 cups.
  6. Sunflower seeds
  7. OPTIONAL- You could either grill some chicken breast on your expedition if you want to bring a grill to have warm chicken.  Or do it the night before, then cool breasts off and slice.
  8. Chocolate sauce (for the leftover fruit).
  9. Stack field greens, fruit, prosciutto crumbles, cheese and sunflower seeds.  Add dressing to taste and enjoy!

For added enjoyment you should have some fruit left over.  This is where the chocolate sauce and your imagination come into play.

I hope this salad can tickle your grown taste buds as memories of years long past are enjoyed with the one you love.
